LONDON BRICK is a portable publication and poetic assemblage that takes the form of a wallet containing fifteen printed and engraved objects. Evoking the weight and debris of everyday life in the city, the edition unfolds as a collection of tactile fragments: receipts, tickets, stickers, coins, maps, slogans... Objects at once disposable, collectable, and deeply saturated with cultural significance. Each item repositions the language of circulation, transaction, and belonging as a site for poetic intervention.
This is not a book in any traditional sense, but an invitation to unzip, unfold, flip, and dig. Meaning emerges not through linear reading but through accumulation, contrast, and repetition. Rooted in LiDO’s broader commitment to ephemeral, collective, and materially-driven publishing, LONDON BRICK embodies influences ranging from Dieter Roth’s use of waste material and found print, to Ulises Carrión’s theory of the book as a space. The work references Gertrude Stein’s destabilised syntax and Ludwig Wittgenstein’s language games, translating them into an urban poetics of the pocket. It is both homage and critique—a poetic response to London’s many physical and social architectures and the people who traverse them, a jam-session of printed detritus, and a document of shared invention.
LONDON BRICK is a kit of unstable meanings, a staged time capsule, and an experiment in what a publication can become when built from (and on) the fragments we carry, discard, and trade.
